An Ideal Husband

An Ideal Husband “We men and women are not made to accept sacrifices from each other. We are not worthy of them,” Lord Goring observes in “An Ideal Husband”, Oscar Wilde’s 1895 play in which Sir Robert Chiltern, a promising politician, and his high-minded wife learn that love has little to do with ideals. Sir Robert Chiltern is held to the highest esteem by his wife who believes he is unquestionably an ideal husband, until the opportunistic Mrs. Cheveley arrives with a secret from his past that could ruin both his career and his marriage.
